In the bustling city of Bangkok, where space is a precious commodity, Anonym Studio has crafted an architectural marvel - the Pridi41 House. This project is a testament to the studio's innovative approach to design, offering a unique solution to the challenges posed by dense urban living.
The Vertical Journey
Pridi41 House stands tall on an 800-sqm corner plot, nestled within a neighborhood of low-rise housing. What makes this design particularly fascinating is its vertical organization, a strategic move to address key concerns like privacy, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort.
The heart of the house is a central core, housing the elevator and staircase, around which the program is distributed. From the ground level, which accommodates service functions and parking, we ascend to the second floor, where the main living areas come alive. Here, the everyday activities of a family are separated from the street, enhancing privacy and offering breathtaking views.
Connecting Interiors and Landscapes
One of the standout features is the large outdoor living terrace on the second floor. This terrace acts as a bridge, seamlessly connecting the interior spaces with the planted areas, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture. The swimming pool, which runs alongside the living and dining areas, not only adds a touch of luxury but also contributes to natural ventilation, a clever use of design to combat the urban heat island effect.
Visual Continuity and Spatial Harmony
The double-height living room is a masterpiece in itself. It extends vertically, creating a visual corridor that connects the different levels of the house. This design choice not only reinforces the spatial relationships within the residence but also allows for a continuous visual connection, ensuring that occupants remain engaged with their surroundings throughout their daily routines.
Privacy and Thermal Comfort
The orientation of the house is a key factor in its success. The master bedroom, facing east, welcomes the morning sun and offers a serene view of the surrounding trees and pool. On the western facade, aluminum laths provide a clever solution, offering solar shading and increased privacy. This passive design strategy is replicated on the fourth floor, where the children's bedrooms benefit from reduced solar heat gain and enhanced privacy.
A Balanced Approach
Pridi41 House is a prime example of how spatial organization and passive environmental design can work in harmony with the landscape. By carefully considering the constraints of the dense urban site, Anonym Studio has created a multigenerational family home that strikes a perfect balance between privacy, openness, and thermal performance.
